Welcome to RJM Australian Shepherds....located in the heartland
of America...
commitment, dedication and integrity are of highest
priority at RJM!
We hope you enjoy your visit...come back often!

We are proud to specialize in Las Rocosa Australian Shepherd,
ASCA Hall of Fame bloodlines, genetically designed for excellent
temperament, high intelligence and total versatility.
RJM dogs, in addition to being the loving, adoring companions
that they were "designed" to be first and foremost, also are competitively
shown in conformation, obedience and agility and participate in search and
rescue, herding and hospital therapy...just to name a few!
Puppies are exclusively home raised and AKC/ASCA dual
registered. We are committed to quality...not quantity, and always to the
betterment of the breed, consistently producing that special dream puppy for
select candidates.
The highest of regard is given to companion placement for an
RJM puppy and we are equally complimented when a puppy goes on to a working
environment.
As a life-long breed fancier of ASCA and AKC Registered
Aussies, dedicated to ongoing education and training, I encourage all
questions and inquiries about our program.
The following is direct quote (excerpt) from THE TOTAL
AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD by Carol and Ernie Hartnagle of Las Rocosa
Aussies...Page 37, Chapter2:
|
"Aussies are purposeful dogs. They are loyal companions and
sensible guardians. While they are willing to listen and respond
quickly to training, they are independent thinkers.
The
Australian Shepherd is reserved with strangers. The term
reserved can best be described as "guarded". The same
cautiousness you would exhibit if a total stranger knocked at
your door. Very few people would throw open the door and embrace
a stranger.....neither will an Aussie and they may perceive
strangers and drop-in company as intruders.
In
recent years, they have moved from ranches into urban and
suburban homes as more and more people find them to be the ideal
companion dog. Their sensible aggressiveness makes them the
ideal guardian and their medium size makes them suitable to keep
in homes and to take in the car. Combine all of this with their
love for and patience with, children....the Aussie cannot help
but become increasingly popular. " |
To me, this is one of the most realistic
character assessments I know of the Aussie, as witnessed in everyday life of
knowing and living with Aussies for over 35 years. In reality, you will
find throughout my web site that I encapsulate it all into the term
"versatility", for to me, that embraces their extraordinary traits of
herding, search and rescue, therapy superior adaptation, high intelligence,
cognitive skills, superior athletic ability, loyalty and family
devotion....and one's best friend. It should be noted that different lines
within the breed bring different traits to the table and those should be
considered, depending on one's ultimate goal with their new family member
and as in all dog selection processes, the correct matching process is key
to success. Within my lines, the herding instinct has been preserved, for
without that key ingredient, which translates into intelligence, we lack the
basis on which to continue to build and further enhance this incredible
breed, through thoughtful and carefully designed breeding programs; mighty
in purpose yet limited in quantity. All pups are cute and darling, yet we
must consider this a life-long commitment and address their character and
temperament as primary in our mutual selection process...it's the right
thing to do.
Please
contact me if you would like more information or if you wish to join the reservation list
for our next planned litter!
We are active members of AKC, ASCA, USASA and ASCMA.
We are pleased you've come to visit and hope you enjoy your stay!

"You can take the Australian Shepherd out of the
country, but you can't take wonderful character, diverse traits and totally
amazing
versatility out of the Aussie....no matter their job in life nor where they
call home....and on that point I am certain!"

taken at their farmer's market.

"Live life LARGE...just
as an Aussie would do; totally engaged, devoted and
loyal, diligent and loving with an unspoken bond of respect....
and the ever present spirit and zest for life that overcomes all
challenges. They teach us well.....our precious and
special difference makers."

Please note, we do NOT breed miniatures
and ask that you read the following regarding 'mini' Aussies...
Recently there has been a rise in
the movement to breed so called "miniature", and sadly, even a "toy"
version of the Australian Shepherd.
Neither of these are recognized by
any of the official Australian Shepherd clubs/organizations. The
Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA), the Canadian Kennel Club
(CKC), the American Kennel Club (AKC), nor the United States
Australian Shepherd Association, Inc. (USASA), recognize nor
register these dogs. The dogs are only recognized by their own breed
clubs which have been formed since they were denied recognition by
the above clubs. They are NOT a 'variety' of the true Australian
Shepherd, they are a totally separate breed.
We do not breed "miniatures",
will not allow our males to be used to breed to a "miniature"
and will not recommend a breeder to you because we personally do not
support the purposeful breeding of "miniature" or "toy" dogs that
are then passed off as Australian Shepherds. We breed our Aussies to
the ASCA and AKC recognized standards of excellence. These clubs
require all of their members to abide by their rules and regulations
and their Code of Ethics, and to be ever vigilant in the
preservation and protection of the true Australian Shepherd. |
